Enchanted Emporium – Showcase: Blue

The colour blue, fresh, vibrant and alluring. If your thinking of choosing this colour for your wedding or event its impossible to go wrong, with so many variations of the colour blue and the endless linen options available out in the marketplace, it seems almost too easy to get carried away with drawing colour throughout your event.

At Enchanted Empire we love using colour, however from an event stylists prospective, linen is not the only way to style your event in colour. Never settle for linen being your only colour option, lets face it who wants to hold an event that looks like every other event held before yours. To be the hostess with the mostess, you need to think outside the box when your planning your event, change your vases from a clear vase sitting atop a blue runner to a blue vase sitting atop of a crushed taffeta ivory or white runner. Alternate your vase heights and widths and it will make for a stunning visual delight when standing back and looking at your room as a whole.

In place of your usual clear or frosted glass votive tea light holders, why not change to varied shades of blue, with flowers in 1/3 and tea lights in the remaining 2/3. Our deep blue and turquoise blue candle pots are another great way to bring through subtle tones of colour.

These products and more coming to our online styling solutions store in March 2012. For more Blue inspiration visit our online store www.enchantedemporium.com.au, with new products arriving daily, you are sure to find that perfect addition to your next event.

In Trend 2012 – Purple & Plum Inspiration

As we bid farewell to 2011 and welcome 2012 with open arms, it has been said that all things Purple are the Hot Trend for this amazing year ahead.  That’s right ladies and gents, according to top USA and European Styling Guru’s Purple, Plum and Violets will rule the style school in all things wedding.

Below we have taken the cute the quirky and the down right adorable from the web and put them all together for your visual pleasure.

Now you have had a look at how purple can be used in your wedding, lets talk about using this amazing colour palette to your advantage. The number one mistake when styling and planning your colour theme, is by matching every item of decor, linen, dresses and invitations. Imagine if you will a room filled with beautiful big tables, crisp white linen and an array of purple items on top,  all clones of one another, neat, styled but the same item……Hmmmm this vision is one so underwhelming i’m sure your guests are in a purple haze or would be if the bar tab were to run out.

The key is to use colour to your advantage, different shades dramatically or subtly so. Purple, Plum, Lavender and Violet are all magical colours worthy of your attention, which are all able to be used in even the most formal of occasions through to the more casual affairs creating sufficient colour, style and overall eye candy for your guests.

Enjoy

Lavish Moroccan

Morocco is a captivating country upon which many other countries around the world draw styling inspiration from. With its vibrant colours and interchanging patterned styles, it is hard not to be inspired as many writers, painters and design conscious people around the world have been for decades.

If your thinking of styling your next event into a Moroccan oasis of colour, then don’t fear, you literally can not go wrong with this design. The 101 on Moroccan styling is to not be to consistent in any one decor item, style or colour.

Textured walls and terracotta tiles are often not found in your usual function centre or family home, your more likely to find heritage green and burgundy’s. This means that you will need to put a little more work into creating the magic that is, a Moroccan styled space. The key is to bring the vibrancy of the outdoors in or even hold your event outdoors and ensure that you create your vision and style through textiles and patterns. Colouring in your usual Moroccan design means everything. The vibrant blues and greens represent the oceans surrounding the area while the golds and oranges can be found in the surrounding deserts. By choosing a base colour, our personal favourite being bright red, almost like fuchsia mixed in with red, demands to be noticed and ensures that any colours used in your secondary palette will most certainly pop. If red is not your thing ensure you don’t shy away from colours you normally would not dream of using. If ever there were a time to bust out the pink when your normally a green fan, then this is it.

Use an assortment of brightly coloured rugs or mats and for seating alternatives hire or buy cushions while seating your guests at low tables, scattered with tea light lanterns and gold mis-matched pots and vases, filled with an array of coloured flowers. Shop at your local flower market and you will save a bundle, the best news is the cheaper flowers are the brightest flowers and that is what you are shopping for with this delightfully bright theme.

Linen is everything with this theme. Ensure you have bright table cloths and runners or as an alternative to a patterned table cloth have mis-matched patterned napkins rolled into an opulent gold or brightly beaded napkin ring laying atop of a bright single coloured table cloth.

The most important thing is to enjoy and remember, less is certainly not more at your Moroccan event!!

For more Moroccan inspiration or to purchase or hire items for your next Moroccan styled event, visit our online styling solutions store Enchanted Emporium . The full Moroccan style catalogue will be available by the end of December 2011.

The Christmas Crunch

Its that time of year again, where we catch up with our loved ones from all over the country and for some the globe. Boy, do us Aussie’s love a good reason to party and it would seem there is no better excuse then our annual Christmas break, to relax and throw a snag or two on the bbq, while kicking back with a cold beverage of choice.

For those of you braving the Christmas hosting duties for your family and friends this year, we salute you! Never an easy task, especially hard for those that may be first timers in the hosting arena.

At the Enchanted Office there is an even split of those that have the home cooked traditional hot Christmas meal and those that have the Ham and Prawn with a mix of cool and in season salads. So for our awesome first time hosties that may be looking to us for some styling assistance for their Christmas break, we will cover off both styles, those that go the traditional hot (sauna) lunch and those that travel the cool roads of salad bliss.

Your first hurdle is to decide if you even wish to dress up your home, after all its just lunch/dinner right? WRONG!! Its Christmas, it only visits once a year and at any age represents many different things to many different people. It comes down to you as a hostess to fill in the blanks and create a festive atmosphere that will ensure your day is one of magic and not “just another family meal”.

As children we all loved the Christmas tree packed with decorations, we enjoyed the time together as a family lovingly wrapping tinsel around and around along with the jovial sibling rivalry to be the one to get the boost from your father to place the star or angel atop of the tree. What if you could extend this fun by decorating your entire home…come on don’t deny it, your inner stylist is just screaming to have a go.

So lets get started, with a friendly Christmas budget in mind, lets face it; it can be expensive enough at this time of year. We will look at some doable styles that anyone can accomplish, that will have your family wondering why you have never put your hand up to be the Christmas host before.

The Traditional Lunch

Held indoors or out this style is one of elegance and tradition. Often represented in movies direct from the cooler states of the USA.

It is not so much about suspended decorations here; it is more so about decorating from the ground up, with a huge focus on the dinner table, as this is where you will be doing most of your entertaining. Linen and crockery is important here and can certainly make or break your setting.

  • A white tablecloth is a great base, it screams crisp, clean and formal.
  • A runner in your chosen festive colour to add a pop
  • For a more modern take on the traditional candelabra, try a large (30cm) hurricane vase with a festive coloured candle in side
  • If your table is large enough add some smaller frosted votives up the length of the table
  • For a fresher feel and if candles are not your thing, visit your local flower market a day or two before Christmas and pick up some beautiful festive flowers, add them to different height & length vases and make a beautiful centrepiece of them. You could even place table mirrors under the vases to add extra depth and freshness to your centrepiece. These are easy to find and can be bought or hired from your local party hire place.
  • If you have bland chairs and wish to dress them up for Christmas, try hiring some sashes from your local hire shop, if tied in a way that suits your space, it could really add visual appeal and style.
  • The best way to make any table look great is to ensure your crockery matches. If not and your budget permits then all white is best, bought from Kmart for around $20 for a set of 4, the effect is one of coordinated perfection. Don’t let your tired plates and bowls let you down.
  • Linen napkins are the way to go in the traditional genre. If you have a sewing machine visit your local fabric store and by a metre or two and whiz up some unique napkins measuring around 50cmx50cm.
  • If you have a larger family with a few new additions you may even wish to print out some cute place cards for your table
  • Add a Christmas cracker in gold or silver and you have yourself a beautifully styled and traditional table.
  • If there is a way that you can suspend decorations from your ceiling then Christmas balls of different sizes can be suspended from the ceiling at different lengths. This is really effective in a traditional setting if your room permits.

The Summer Lunch

Mostly held outdoors to take advantage of the great Aussie summer, this style is best keeping the table minimal or literally free for the sauce, coolers and copious amount of paper plates and plastic utensils.

This genre is best decorated from above and the areas surrounding the less formal eating and lounging area. If your pool is going to be a huge part of your Christmas day, ensure you do not forget it when styling your event.

  • Suspend paper lanterns in festive colours from the patio and trees surrounding the venue
  • Suspend red or deep red acrylic crystal garlands if you are going for a more bling Christmas or light reflective
  • Paper Pom Poms are easy to make in festive colours, try doing layers to add depth and include white paper doilies for a cute festive touch
  • If you are having one big long conversation worthy table ensure you add a bright runner and some chunky square or rectangle vases filled with blooms
  • If you have an outdoor lounge area be sure to change over your cushion covers with something more festive, avoid patterns and stick with block colours to ensure the area does not look dated
  • Coloured glassware is always a cheap and effective way to bring colour to your outdoor events

Don’t Forget The Entry

This is where your guest’s walk into you home, this is the most important space and is one that is often overlooked. The decorations in this space are what set the scene and the vibe for your guests. Ensure you place decorative items in your chosen colour palette. There is no need to over do it, less is more, but it is important that this space not be kept bland or everyday.

Anyway, avid DIY friends out there, we wish you well on your styling journey. Keep us posted and we hope you have a lovely style worthy Christmas!

The Scent Of It All

As Brisbane Event Stylist, we style many an event to fit perfectly with each of our clients personalities and surrounds, the perfect centrepiece, the perfect chair cover that has the ability to add that extra touch of elegance to a room, or even the perfect lighting to ensure the vibe and feel is one of opulence and style, matching in perfectly with our clients request.

It is with this, that I must make note and share my recent desire to include a sense that we often would not associate or be at the forefront of an event or wedding day styling request. This sense would be – Smell!

Now I know what you may all be thinking, one of our beloved styling team members has gone a little cuckoo! Thankfully I can tell you, this is not the case.

In all honesty I actually surprised myself. I can say with my countless hours of scouring venues and taking note of the finest details, right down to the stains on the function room floor, I have never once needed to consider smell, as I am sure none of you have either. Unless something smells bad, why change it? Right? Wrong!!

It has been said that scent is most strongly tied to memory and emotion. So why when setting our theme and planning every little detail is the sense of scent overlooked? Well that’s simple; if it doesn’t smell bad, don’t fix it. However, just because it doesn’t smell bad, that does not mean it could not smell better.

Who amongst us, has been to the usual work Luau themed Christmas party, in the usual hotel in the centre of the hustle and bustle of the CBD? A Luau in a city hotel, miles from the ocean, yet sipping a pina colada surrounded by tiki lanterns and although thoroughly enjoying the free booze and basic attempt at turning a hotel function room into a beach side holiday destination, your still not feeling it.

Enter SCENT…..A glorious scent of possibly the ocean or coconuts, and suddenly your emotions and memories are triggered. You remembered the last time you actually took a holiday and all of a sudden you feel more relaxed and free to unwind.

It could be that simple. I am not suggesting you visit your local Dusk store and clear its shelves of every beach inspired scent available to man, I am simply saying add a slight hint of smell to your next event or wedding and watch your guests relax into their surrounds and slow comfortable smiles spread across their faces as they mingle and enjoy the style and space you have created for your event.

Some suggestions are below, depending on your theme, now remember don’t saturate the room with your chosen scent. Keep it subtle!

Theme

Country – Lavender, Rose, White Orchid

Beach – Coconut, Papaya, Mango

Backyard – Neroli Blossom, Gardenia, Sweet Pea

Christmas – Christmas Spice, Cinnamon

Sweets – Chai Tea, Vanilla, Spun Candy

Savouries – Spiced Pear, Wild Ginger

Thanks to this new insight into the sense of smell, emotions and memories, we here at Enchanted Empire are happy to announce that in the months leading up to Christmas we will be adding Elume products to our online store www.enchantedemporium.com.au. Keep an eye out for the huge array of scents that could enhance your next event.

Enjoy!!
